Mitsuki: Orochimaru hasn’t revealed everything

Mitsuki (ミツキ, Mitsuki) is a synthetic human who is a Konoha shinobi and a member of Team Konohamaru.

Context

Mitsuki was created by Orochimaru as a synthetic human, being grown from the same embryo as at least one older “Mitsuki”. Like his “brother”, Mitsuki was named after “Tsuki” (杯, literally meaning: Vessel) and the sixth sign of the Chinese zodiac calendar, “Mi” (巳, literally meaning: Snake). Orochimaru, as Mitsuki’s “parent”, wanted Mitsuki to find her independence, having concocted a complex plot for Mitsuki to do so. On Orochimaru’s sixth attempt at this plan, each time erasing Mitsuki’s memories of the previous one, Mitsuki mastered Sage Transformation and decided to rebel against his “parent” and “big brother”. He left their company and set about forging his own destiny, calling himself “Mitsuki” (巳月, Mitsuki) by replacing the second character with “Tsuki” (月, literally meaning: Moon). After discovering the existence of Boruto Uzumaki thanks to a gift from Orochimaru, Mitsuki decided to visit Konoha and befriend him in order to find her own path in life.

Personality

Mitsuki has a very calm, matter-of-fact demeanor. He is generally perceived as very cheerful, even indifferent, to the situation at hand. Without being aggressive, he expresses himself freely in any situation and does things at his own pace. He’s also known for his sharp mind, his ability to read and observe, and his advanced knowledge of mathematics. He’s quite close to Boruto, caring about his opinion more than most.

Apparently stemming from his harsh upbringing with Orochimaru, Mitsuki is very vicious in battle, showing no restraint and ready to kill his enemies without hesitation. He’s also highly motivated and committed when given a task, because when ordered to kill someone, he doesn’t give up, no matter who the person is. During his time at the Academy, he doesn’t seem to have had much of a friendship with Sarada Uchiha until they were assigned to Team Konohamaru.

Although he hasn’t revealed much to them about his origins or his parents, Mitsuki cares about his teammates, Boruto and Sarada, to the point where he never hesitates to rush to their side when they’re in danger or need help. Mitsuki thinks highly of Boruto as the son of the seventh Hokage and grandson of the fourth Hokage, and Mitsuki believes that Boruto is destined to become Hokage himself one day, despite Sarada’s repeated declarations that she will be Hokage.

Mitsuki seems to admire Naruto and Sasuke Uchiha because they are both high-ranking shinobi and tells Boruto and Sarada how her parent told her that their fathers are rivals who can fight on equal terms. Mitsuki also has great admiration for his father and great confidence in his abilities, to the point of naivety, as he showed when he boasted to Boruto and Sarada that Orochimaru was even more powerful than both their fathers.

Appearance

Mitsuki has tousled white-blue hair, thin eyebrows, golden eyes and a pale complexion he inherited from his father. According to several of the girls in his class, he’s very handsome.

His costume consists of a loose-fitting, two-tone light- and dark-blue kimono shirt with long sleeves, tied with a thick khaki-gray Ono-style belt, and navy-blue pants. In addition to his outfit, he wears long black fingerless gloves and calf-length black shinobi sandals. When he becomes a shinobi, Mitsuki begins wearing a black Konoha forehead protector on his head.

Skills

Chakra and physical prowess

Mitsuki has an extremely high chakra level for his age, enough to reach Sage mode. He is also extremely fast and agile, able to avoid attacks and redirect them against the enemy. He is highly advanced in taijutsu. Like his father, Mitsuki has a very fluid and graceful fighting style, able to slip seamlessly through his opponent’s defenses and strike with great suppleness. Like a snake, his specialty seems to be body holds and shocks. He was also able to hold his own against Suigetsu Hōzuki in a brief brawl.

Ninjutsu

Mitsuki’s signature technique is “Soft Physique Modification”, where he can stretch his arms to use them as weapons and restraints. He can also break barriers using an unknown technique, simply by touching them. Although he wasn’t seen using it, he was carrying a sword at one point, hinting at his kenjutsu skills. In the anime, he demonstrated considerable cutting prowess, able to slice cleanly through a metal beam. He also notes that he excels in evasion techniques. He is also very stealthy, regularly sneaking up on his classmates without them noticing. What’s more, he can also employ sleight-of-hand tactics, concealing needles in his mouth to hurl at his opponent with considerable power.

Mitsuki can use the summoning technique to summon snakes, with which he can perform hidden Shadow Snake Hands, as well as the snake clone technique. When he manages to reach one of his snakes, Mitsuki can use it to track down his comrades. He also excels in medical Ninjutsu, curse techniques and can use wind release to create strong winds.

In the anime, he also masters Lightning Release, capable of creating a discharge of electricity. He’s a skilled sensor, able to detect the presence of enemies throughout the area. Mitsuki has demonstrated his ability to heal his own wounds without the need for hand seals. He can also extend his fingernails into claws for combat purposes.

Senjutsu

Mitsuki possesses the ability to use Sage Transformation, although he can only access this ability unconsciously. He has the distinction of possessing a shroud of cyan chakra that transforms into an ethereal snake around his body to help him attack, and a single horn grows from his forehead. Mitsuki is also able to reach Sage mode, making him one of the youngest to achieve it.

His speed increases enormously, as evidenced by the fact that he managed to snatch a scroll and a key from Orochimaru before he realized Mitsuki had moved.
A new era

Academy Arch

After immigrating from Oto and rebuilding in Konoha, Mitsuki was allowed to enroll in Konoha Academy as a transfer student, as a sign of mutual trust between the villages. In the anime, before joining the Academy, he observed a class from afar, silently watching as a strange summons was unleashed before being submitted. Later, when a student expelled from the Academy was causing damage to the village (being in possession of a shadow spectre), Mitsuki intervened and quickly stopped him. In the process, he met Boruto, Shikadai Nara and Iwabee Yuino. The following day, he was presented to the Academy as a new transfer student. Taking an interest in Boruto, Mitsuki decided to sit next to him. During combat training, Mitsuki quickly proved to be very advanced, easily beating Iwabee, but also trying to kill him. He was eventually stopped by Boruto, who expressed his contempt for such actions, prompting Mitsuki to apologize. Later that night, Mitsuki made contact with someone via a white snake.

The next day, Shino Aburame decided to use the classroom to throw a welcome party for Mitsuki. When Shino’s party efforts backfired with his bugs, the class began to panic, with Denki begging someone to make the bugs disappear, which Mitsuki did with her Wind Release: Breakthrough, causing even more damage to the Academy. Later, one of the repairmen went mad, causing even more damage to the Academy. Mitsuki realized that the man had the same dark aura as the expelled student from earlier, impressed that Boruto could also see. Working alongside his new classmates, they managed to subdue the man. The following day, Mitsuki, Boruto and Shikadai were called to the training ground for an extracurricular lesson from Shino. When their teacher appeared, he was in possession of the same goods as the others. Shino then surrounded the entire area with his insects, forcing the students to flee. After a long chase, Shikadai devised a plan to stop the rampaging sensei. While Shikadai and Boruto distracted Shino and lured him into the water, Mitsuki trapped Shino and electrocuted him, expelling the specter. This act stopped Shino’s rampage but left Mitsuki exhausted and sinking to the bottom of the lake. He was saved by the recovered Shino. This finally made him recognize Shino’s value as a teacher.

Later, as they walked around talking with Boruto and Shikadai about the recent attacks, they found some of the girls subduing a boy. They learned that the boy, Magire, was a student at the Academy and had a crush on Sumire. When his feelings were rejected by Sumire, he ran away. The next day, notes were left throughout the academy for Sumire. Eventually, it turned out to be Magire, who was possessed by the specter and eventually abducted Sumire. Mitsuki watched as Boruto and Shikadai confronted Magire. In the end, it was Chōchō who was able to reason with Magire, helping him to calm down and reject the specter. Magire subsequently collapsed after being drained of most of his chakra by the specter. Later that night, Mitsuki again reported to an unknown person via his white snake, saying he would continue his investigation to find out why only Boruto could see this specter. Eventually, Boruto came to the conclusion that his particular eye power was the Byakugan. However, after testing the theory with his grandfather, Boruto learned that this was not the case. Despite this, Boruto was still determined to discover the true nature of his eye, surprising Mitsuki with his mature attitude.

Determined to find and capture the spectre, whose name Mitsuki liked as Boruto’s “ghost”, they and Shikadai decided to skip class under a false excuse. Due to Mitsuku’s poor written excuse, they were soon discovered. It was decided that the three, as punishment, should take after-school classes to make up for lost time.

Later, Shino assigned his class to adapting other workplaces to better understand the lives of non-shinobi. Seeing Boruto’s desire to continue patrolling the village, he subtly convinced Boruto, Shikadai and Mitsuki to try the postal service. While sorting stamps, they heard on the news that another attack had taken place at the water treatment plant, where Sumire was staying. Mitsuki and her friends quickly rushed to her rescue.

After making sure Sumire was okay, Mitsuki and her friends were approached by Naruto. Realizing they were also investigating the attacks, he showed them what had become of the culprit’s victims: almost complete chakra exhaustion that required intensive care. While telling the children to stay away from the case, Shino appeared, insisting that they had confidence in his pupil’s efforts, which Naruto finally accepted. It was then decided to get extra help from their classmates, realizing that Mitsuki’s team was being spied on. After everyone had their area to cover and left the post office, the mysterious culprit controlling the specter unleashed it on the postmaster.

However, Mitsuki’s group anticipated this action, cornering the culprit. As the ninja retreated away from everyone else, Mitsuki quickly tracked him down. After a moment’s pause, Mitsuki gave up her pursuit, leaving the culprit to escape. After rejoining his group, Mitsuki helped clean up the post office.

As classes continued, Mitsuki continued to show a noticeable interest in Boruto, he began asking his various classmates their opinions of him, intrigued by their double-entendre answers, finding him awkward but amusing. Finally, he asked Boruto if he could join him for dinner at his house, which he accepted. That evening, Naruto was surprisingly able to join them for dinner. However, as dinner began, Naruto learned that a strange chakra was being dispersed throughout the village, prompting him to leave. Boruto was furious, seeing his father leave at the drop of a hat. Seeing Naruto’s duties as Hokage as someone who would sacrifice his loved ones for the good of the whole village, he was determined to stop the specter in front of Naruto to prove his father wrong about his methods. Mitsuki then revealed that he knew who the culprit was.

He declared that it was Sumire. Boruto dismissed the accusation, but Mitsuki insisted it was true after doing her own research. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake in the village, followed by the emergence of the specter, now in tangible form. Mitsuki was again contacted by her snake, who was ordered to kill the Sumire. Mitsuki told Boruto that they could stop the creature if they killed the summoner. Boruto refused to kill his friend, prompting Mitsuki to subdue him with a snake clone. Mitsuki found Sumire and attacked her, who managed to fend off her first attack. As Mitsuki managed to pin her down and prepared to kill her, Boruto arrived, distracting Mitsuki enough for Sumire to escape. Sumire proclaimed that the girl they knew had never existed. Boruto continued to weave in and out of Mitsuki’s attacks. Suddenly, Boruto’s right eye began to react randomly, causing the Nue to teleport above them. Sumire calmly offered herself to the creature to complete its development. As it was swallowed whole and drawn into a space-time portal, Boruto quickly set off in pursuit.

In the pocket dimension, Mitsuki helps Boruto fend off Nue. As Boruto manages to hold her back, Mitsuki prepares to kill Nue. Her effort is blocked by Sumire. As Mitsuki confronts Sumire again, Boruto hits her with a kunai to stop the fight. Boruto insisted that revenge did not have to be his path. Torn and torn between everything she knew as Boruto continued to befriend her, Sumire told Nue to take her chakra and finish the plan, only for the creature to snuggle up to her. Boruto supposed that, having been the one to raise Nue, he had come to regard Sumire as his parent. Boruto insisted that Sumire didn’t want violence and knew she didn’t want the beast to follow the same dark path that had been forced upon her. Letting go of his anger, he broke the summoning contract on her back, causing the dimension to collapse. Boruto reaches Sumire and convinces her to join him, leaving Mitsuki stunned as Boruto once again comes up with an answer that defies logic. Boruto found the portal back home. When they arrived, they were found by their friends and elite ninjas. Sai, who could sympathize with Sumire’s past, offered to help him build a new path for her. Sumire surrendered of her own free will.

A few weeks later, Shino decided to change the three-man teams for their next challenge to determine the best pairings for graduation. Mitsuki insisted on staying on Boruto’s team and also teamed up with Lee. During their challenge to capture a flag, Mitsuki cut the construction beams to stop her opponents, allowing Boruto to obtain the flag. Shino was then pulled aside regarding Sumire. When the class began discussing rumors of Sumire’s transfer to another school, they were relieved to see her back in their class.
Arc Sarada Uchiha

When he learned that he and the rest of the class would be taking final exams in a week’s time, Mitsuki eagerly told Boruto that the day had finally arrived, to which Boruto agreed, saying it would be a piece of cake. He then bumped into Chōchō Akimichi and Sarada at a restaurant and had a little chat with the girls, noting that questioning their identity and self-esteem is common among girls their age and is commonly referred to as their “tragic heroine syndrome”. Mitsuki was also able to determine which Chōchō clan he came from, not only by seeing his family crest, but also based on his appearance.

Later, Mitsuki joined Boruto on a simple mission to deliver his wife’s lunch to the Hokage for the trip. Arriving too late, Sarada and Chōchō offered to leave the village and bring him the lunch. Although Boruto felt this made no sense, he soon saw the strong desire in Sarada’s eyes. Mitsuki, also realizing that this was important to the young Uchiha, asked Chōchō to give them a minute, who wondered if this was a confession of love on the boy’s part. Mitsuki simply replied that her symptoms were getting worse and that she needed professional help.

Arc vs Momoshiki

After graduating from the Academy and becoming a genin, Mitsuki is assigned to Team Konohamaru with Boruto and Sarada. Mitsuki and his team are sent on a mission to capture a giant panda. As Boruto used his shadow clones to subdue the panda and Sarada got angry with him for his disregard for teamwork, Mitsuki tells him to leave it all to Boruto because he’s the Hokage’s son and is likely to become Hokage one day, much to Sarada’s chagrin as she declared she would become Hokage. After the mission, they went to the Hokage office, where Boruto and his father argued. Boruto warned him not to miss his sister’s birthday, or he’d never forgive her, before storming out. Mitsuki and Sarada meet Boruto later to inform him that the Chūnin exams are starting soon, although Boruto declares that he has no interest in taking part, which causes Boruto and Sarada to argue. When Boruto asks Sarada if her father will attend the exams, she replies that she doubts it, and after a brief chat with Sarada’s father, Mitsuki says that her relative has told her that Sasuke is the only one who can fight on equal terms with Naruto. This leaves Boruto and Sarada curious about his parentage. However, before Mitsuki can tell her teammates who her parent is, Hinata and Himawari arrive to pick up Boruto for Himawari’s birthday party.

Mitsuki appears for the Chūnin exams with his teammates, although it takes Sarada’s reprimands and a meeting with Sasuke for Boruto to agree to appear with him and Sarada. The first round of Chūnin exams is a true-or-false quiz concerning a question about the fifth volume of a series of novels. When it turns out that both answers are incorrect, each team is suddenly thrown into a hole with a lake of ink at the bottom. Mitsuki stretches to prevent herself and her team-mates from falling into the ink, and Sarada deduces that the quiz was a sham all along and that anyone who falls into the ink is disqualified. Having managed to avoid falling in the ink, Mitsuki and her team move on to the second round where the teams compete for the flags. Mistuki and Sarada set off to try and steal the other teams’ flags, while Boruto stays behind to defend their own. When Boruto is attacked by another genin team, Mitsuki decides to return to help him. However, by the time she arrives, Boruto has already defeated the other genin (using his Kote). They finally manage to acquire more flags and protect their own. When they regroup, Sarada chides Boruto for not being happier than they are before telling him that his eyes are even bluer than Naruto’s, which Mitsuki accepts after unexpectedly standing up to scare him.

In the third round, Mitsuki managed to beat Toroi. Before his next match against Araya, he and Sarada watch Boruto’s fight against Shikadai Nara and are disappointed when he is disqualified for cheating. Shortly afterwards, Momoshiki and Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki attack. Mitsuki and Sarada help evacuate the children from the area. He is concerned for Sarada when it appears that she has been crushed by falling debris, but is then relieved when he sees that she has been rescued by her father. After Momoshiki and Kinshiki left, Mitsuki tried to comfort Boruto when he discovered that Naruto had sacrificed himself. When Boruto, Sasuke and the other four Kage prepared to travel to another dimension to save Naruto, Mitsuki accompanied Sarada, Sakura and a worried Hinata so that she could prevent Boruto from going on such a dangerous mission. However, Hinata finally agreed to let Boruto go after seeing his determination and how much he resembled his father when he was younger. Before leaving, Boruto asked Mitsuki and Sarada to look after the village while he was away.

.

After the ordeal, Mitsuki joined her teammates on a mission to catch a giant panda moving through the village. The three have a brief conversation in which Boruto declares that he wants to be a shinobi like Sasuke, before they leap from the Hokage rock and into the air and complete their mission shortly.

They’re all going to have a good time.

Mujina’s bandit bow

While the Konohamaru team is on a mission to capture the Mujina bandits, Mitsuki ends up capturing and tying one of the bandits to a tree. A few days later, Mitsuki’s team is surprised to be given its first B-rank mission. While Sarada and Boruto were intimidated at first, Mitsuki noticed that the Fifth Kazekage was known for his B-rank missions despite being a genin himself, which quickly excited his teammates. On the day of the mission, when Boruto abandoned the mission for personal reasons, Sarada asked Mitsuki to find their teammate to help him. They arrived in time to rescue the paralyzed Boruto from Shojoji, quickly overpowering and defeating the bandit. Later, while applauding for saving Tentō and capturing the Mujin bandits, Konohamaru also declared that they should be punished for abandoning their official mission.

Arc says “Ao”

Weeks after Shojoji’s capture, Naruto joined his son in a sparring match in front of Academy students and other spectators. While Boruto showed considerable improvement in his techniques, Naruto somehow managed to cancel them all out. Mitsuki determined that Naruto really was absorbing the techniques. After the match, with which Naruto learned, it was revealed that Naruto was testing a new advanced ninja tool based on Momoshiki’s absorption power. While Boruto was furious at this deception, Sasuke calmed Boruto down, noting that this was necessary as the danger to their world was still very imminent.
